Favorite School Memories:

My favorite memory is that of the Annual Sports Day. It was followed by vacations when one could go home. What distinguished the day was

My favorite school memories reside in the Saturdays. The school closed by lunchtime. We were free to lounge about in the afternoons. It was normally followed by some football match with a visiting team. In the evening one could wear colored clothes. The loveliest part was the alfresco dinners that we had. I still remember there was a dish of chicken with potato chips and ice cream in the summers. It was followed by a picture in the Ban Talkies named after one Bani Shaw who was the School Captain in 1962 when the auditorium was constructed. A huge cheer greeted the caption of the movie, particularly loud if was a western. The show could be spoiled if you were found guilty of the misdemeanor so grave that one was awarded a picture penance.

Least Favorite School Memories

The leave taking of the school is certainly a painful memory. There were so many things that one disliked about the school that one imagined that he would be better of outside. One left the school with joy, a lot of handshakes, hugs and promises to keep in touch. However, as the rickshaw rolled out of the school gates one felt that one was leaving a part behind. One could feel a lump grow in the throat. Since then, one has been to places. There have been successes and failures, scaled new peaks. The nostalgia of the school has grown with the passing of every year. Now in the twilight of life one feels that what one would not exchange for just a few days of that life, just to be back for a briefwhile.

Favorite Teacher(s)

Father Mulhan, SJ is definitely the most remembered, admired feared and eulogized teacher of our years. Every evening the dining hall would be abuzz with the latest of Father Mulhan- how he had devised a test in which most would flunk, how he threw someone out from his hallowed precincts (the laboratory), how he awarded a zero to someone etc. He had devised a new method of physically punishing the errant students. It was a hard slap at the bottom combined with a shove which would leave one sprawled outside. I, as a frequent recipient of this treatment have particular reasons to remember. I, of course, retaliated by devising a method to enter his laboratory at 3.00 in the morning and stealing tartaric acid with which one would prepare paneer in the breakfast.

I remember Sandeep Maity as a person who would resurrect hismself during the football season and he was good at that.  He would otherwise lie dormant during the cricket and hockey seasons.  He had made pals with one of our classfriends Kaverjeet Singh who later added Gujaral to his name and took up domicile in New Zealand.  Maity delighted so many with his artistry with the ball.  I am sure he will find a place by the side of God.
