Anthony da . as some of use to call him, was known to me from 1960, He was in his final year at school and I joined the school in the 1st std. in 1960. After finishing school he joined St. Xavier's College Ranchi. During holidays wnen I went home I often got to meet Anthony da. It was really a pleasure meeting him,he enquired about our school , all the fathers and teachers. After college studies he joined Indian Navy. His younger brother Emil Barla, also a Hoxan, 1969 batch had become a very close friend of mine. So later on I got all the news about Anthony da from Emil. Felt very proud when Emil told me that Anthony da was not an ordinary sailor but he was in the submarine and rose to the rank of Commodore. After retirement  Anthony da settled down in Ranchi and got himself busy with lot of social and community work. He had become a role model for the local youths and they came seeking his valuable opinion  and advise on many issues. I use to meet Anthony da when ever I came to Ranchi from Kerala, usually after Sunday mass. He always had that smart and healthy look about him, so it is really very shocking and hard to believe that he is no more with us.

May Anthony da's soul rest in peace , and heart felt condolences to all near and dear ones.

Was shocked to learn of Tony's demise. Not only was he a schoolmate he was family and has especially been more than a freind and mentor to my sisters and brothers while he was stationed in Mumbai and at Naval HQ in New Delhi. He was truly an Officer and a Gentleman. In school I would really admire him because of his sporting talents and nerver did I ever see him lose his temper on or off the feild. He was also a true family man, a wonderful husband to Evelyn and a loving father to Mona, Jaya and Amit who must surely be feeling the loss. I will always rembember him as an absolute gentleman and everyone who knew him can truly be proud of their association with him wether in school, college or the Indian Navy.

SXH can also truly be proud for having prduced such a fine man who is not going to be easy to forget especially for those who knew him.

Tony nana, I am truly proud of you and will miss you as much as your family will. My sincere and heartfelt condolences and may the Lord give your family the strength to bear this loss.

I wanted to meet Anthony when I heard he was staying at Ranchi after his V.R.S. Retirement. On e fine morning I took my son’s motor cycle and drove down from Doranda to Lalpur. I did not know his exact address but somehow I reached his place. We talked for about an hour mainly about his acquaintance with Bhakti and his passion to buy a Toyota Car after having a midnight drive.
I still find that some friends of our forum mark a forwarded a copy of the mail of our beloved Anthony.
About 2 years back when he heard about my illness, he promptly remitted some fund to my A/C even without telling me. When I questioned him, he replied that he was doing his duty of helping his friend.
Anthony, no matter wherever you are, may your soul rest in peace with Almighty forever.
