Placidius was a gentle human being and a sportsman par excellence. He excelled in every sport that was played during our time in school - atheletics, hockey, football and cricket. I met him very briefly only once after we passed out from school. I was told that he had joined the Border Security Force while still at college. I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to Placidius's family. Ajit Singh. Class of 1968.

I am saddened and distraught by the untimely death of Placidius, dreadful news.

Placidious, Kanhaiya, Shantanu and I were fierce, fair, competitive sporty combatans and fought all the way to win the House Chmapionship Trophy of 1968, we scrapped to the bitter end.

I still rememebr vividly, even after 46 years, that afternoon when Gongaza House eventually deservedly won the Championship Trophy, Placidius was the first House Captain to congratualte me for winning it. He was not only an excellent sportsman he was also an exceptional human being.

Placidius was a very good friend of mine and shared a common interest in sports and study. Each time I visited India I always longed to meet Placidius and Kanhiya, but never succeeded.

My sincere condolences  are with his family and loved ones, may your soul rest in peace good friend.

Swapan Samanta

The name Placidus is of Latin origin.

The meaning of Placidus is "calm, placid".  also Serene

Ekka is an Oraon name. Oraons speak Kurukh language related to Dravidian family. Majority of ... Gari, Lakra, Kispotta, Runda, Tirky, Toppo, Linda, Ekka, Kuzur, Bek, Kerketta, Bandi, Minz and Khalkho. .... They believe one God (dharmesh) means Abba.

Ekka also refers to the Tortoise with endless life and wisdom.

Placidus was extremely cool, an ardent sportsman never losing his temper while in SXH

Placi was gentle, soft spoken, very well behaved  - a calm and quite person by nature. I am very pleased to know that he left this world (in his sleep) just the way he lived. I am sure that the smile would not have deserted him even while taking the final bow before the screen came down. I will miss him dearly and grope on remembrances till the day my screen also comes down.

Plassey as we all called him during our good all school days ,was as everybody has remarked very cool throughout his school life.He never seemed anxious about the exams and he was a fantastic sports person.During our last year in school many of us were trying to get the coveted BEST INFLUENCE AWARD, and Plassey silently won that award. As it is said " Silent waters run deep".

After school he joined St. Xavier's College, Ranchi.I went for my medical studies to St. John's Medical College , Bangalore. As long as he was studying at Xavier's Ranchi,I use to meet him when I came down for my holidays. In the college he excelled in sports shattering the Javelin throw record by throwing it out and over not only the ground but also the boundary wall of the college. We Ranchi wallas were good with the hockey sticks, not so with the cricket bats. But Plassey represented Ranchi University in cricket, of course he had picked up his cricketing skills from our school.

After college he joined BSF and I lost touch with him. I never got to meet him again..

It's really sad he is no more, he silently passed away.

May your soul rest in peace Plassey.

Charlie.

I joined St Xavier's Hazaribagh quite a bit later than most of my batchmates. From a day-scholar at St Xavier's Delhi to boarding school at Hazaribagh was a seachange in my young life. Plassey was one of those who became a dear friend early on. Quiet, solid, always encouraging, polite to a fault...a gem of a human being even at that young age.

There was much to learn from Plassey's lion-hearted exploits on the playing fields, a peerless hockey player and a great distance runner.

It is sad to think that after that last week of December 1968 when we went out of the school gate for the last time, I never could meet my dear friend Plassey - ever again.

May you rest in peace wherever you are. We will always remember you.

Kalyan

So many years have gone by. I remember Placidius Ekka. I remember sitting by the playing field and watched Placidius deftly working the hockey ball with his hockey stick, weaving in and out of defenders... what a joy it was to see him play the game. He was a sportsman. RIP Placidius...
